THE ECUADORIAN AMAZON
Ecotrails offers you to enjoy a great experience in Amazon jungle.
We are able to give you an objective point of view regarding the different
services which are proposed to you. That is why we chose two areas (Coca
and Tena), in which two lodges will assure you a very good service and
a wonderful experience in Amazonia.
The Ecuadorian Amazon Jugle holds the world record for biodiversity:
more than 500 species of exotic tropical birds, 12 species of monkeys,
2 species of fresh water dolphins, 4 observable species of caiman, and
other animals such as tapirs, peccaries and anteaters; more than 277
species of plants have been identified on just 2.5 acres of this vast
and untouched lake-and-jungle region: palms, orchids, bromeliads.
Tropical rain forest can be found along the Earth's equatorial zone,
between the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer, where rainfall is abundant
year-round. There are more species of plants and animals in tropical
rain forests than all the rest of the world's ecosystems combined.
Tropical forests have already supplied us with and abundance of useful
species - particularly plants - for food and agriculture, medicine and
industry. Pineapples, bananas, cocoa, coffee, and spices like cardamon,
vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper, all originated in the tropical
forests. Of many plants identified by the US National Cancer Institute
as having anticancer properties, 70% are from tropical rainforests.
CUYABENO AREA
BATABURO LODGE
In the middle of the untouched rainforest of the Ecuadorian Amazon
basin on the Tiguino river we find our Lodge Bataburo, which offers
all the necessary comfort with out losing the adventure spirit.
It is located 90 kilometres south east from the town of Coca (Francisco
de Orellana). The river Tiguino flows through the Huaorani Territory.
Here we find the mystical and wild heart of the primary rainforest.
Together with the Organization of the Huaorani villages, the ONHAE,
we agreed to build the Bataburo Lodge in their ancestral land.

NAPO - TENA AREA
SHANGRILA LODGE
|
Connoisseurs of jungle travel frequently complain that one of
the rainforest's greatest drawbacks is the limited visibility due
to the sheer density of vegetation. Situated on the cliff-tops 100m
over the Rio Anzu (Quichua for 'little river'), Cabañas Shangrila
offers one of the best views in the entire Amazon basin. As the
rising sun burnishes the peaks of no less than four snow-capped
volcanoes and burns off the last patches of swirling mist, busy
flights of toucans and parrots wing their way across the canopy
en-route to their morning feeding grounds. Troops of monkeys stop
to stare as you take breakfast on the panorama terrace and, occasionally,
a coati bustles past with her young puppies jostling behind.

AMARONGACHI LODGE
Amarongachi's world-famous eco-lodges were designed to compliment
the natural balance of a country that offers more eco-diversity
per square kilometre than any other on Earth. High on the forested
banks of the Rio Napo headwaters, both Cabañas Amarongachi
and Cabañas Shangrila have become such an accepted part
of the jungle habitat that they are visited on a daily basis by
an immense variety of wildlife. Spend a few days jungle-trekking
with our experienced guides, visiting indigenous villages, rafting
the rapids, or just watching the procession of regular visitors
from the panoramic terrace…and we guarantee that you'll
soon be back too!
