RECOMMENDATIONS IN SELECTING YOUR GALAPAGOS BOAT

One of the most important aspects to consider in any Galapagos cruise is the quality of the onboard NATURALIST GUIDE. He/she will make one of the biggest differences on your cruise. This particularly applies to his/her ability to communicate in ENGLISH (the level of English spoken varies from yacht to yacht) and his/her level of KNOWLEDGE on Galapagos (history, flora, fauna etc).

Another very important aspect is the CRUISE RATE, which does not necessarily reflect the quality of the cruise. The more expensive options are not always higher quality cruises. Sadly, there are no under-priced cruises; there are about a dozen reasonably- priced cruises and the vast majority are very expensive options. Most people are looking for reasonably-priced cruises (that provide a good itinerary, balanced meals, are clean & safe and carry a qualified naturalist guide). These options are limited and most popularly selected.

The Galapagos Islands, located 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, are a living laboratory of evolution. The Galapagos Islands were the inspiration for the Charles Darwin's evolution theory that produced a revolution in human thought which we can still feel now. This group of 13 major islands and dozens of smaller islets and rocks - all the result of volcanic activity- certainly appear to be out of this world. They are, in fact, an unpredicted wildrness, filled with extraordinary population of unique species which have developed apart from humans and their dominating influence.

Diving in the Galapagos Islands is quite simply incredible. Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine ranks the Galapagos Islands as the best dive destination in the world. In the Indo Pacific region it ranked number one in the categories of Healthiest Marine Environment, Best Big Animal Dive and Best Advanced Diving. Galapagos scuba diving tours can be booked on a live aboard boat for multi-day dives or in Puerto Ayora for day dives. Among the animals commonly seen are various species of sharks including hammerheads, manta rays, sea turtles, stingrays, sea lions and large schools of tropical fishes.
