GUAYAQUIL

Guayaquil, Ecuador, the capital of the Guayas province, is the largest and most populous city in Ecuador. Located on the Pacific coast, it has a tropical climate, and is known as the 'Pacific Pearl'. It is the main port of Ecuador, thus, it is of great economic importance to the country.
The city was named after a Huancavilcan Indigenous Chief, "Guayas", and his wife, "Quil". Both of whom chose to die before surrendering themselves to the Spaniards.

The surroundings of Guayaquil offer archaeological sites of the pre-Hispanic cultures of Valdivia, Machalilla, Chorrera, Guangala and Manteña.
The gulf of Guayaquil, the River, the monuments, museums, parks, and its exhilarating night life are part of the attractions of this city.

WHALE WATCHING

The Ecuadorian marine environment is characterized by the diverse ocean currents that mix here – the warm waters of El Niño, the cold Humbolt current and the Equatorial cross current. This conflux of currents gives rise to a unique ecosystem with high biodiversity. Perhaps the most famous of its residents are the humpback whales which make the waters of Machalilla their home during the summer months. The waters also support an abundance of bait fish which attract trophy-size big game fish, including the Pacific Blue Marlin, yellow fin tuna and others.

FISHING

The cool waters of the Humboldt Current produce a virtually unlimited supply of fish, which in turn attract such stunning game fish as Pacific sailfish, wahoo, big-eye tuna, and various species of marlin, which can exceed 1,000 pounds in size. Ecuador is really an undiscovered destination for game fishermen. It offers a great opportunity to travel to a unique location and experience some of the best fishing in the world.

SURFING in Ecuador

Montañita is one of the best places to surf in Ecuador. It's a meeting place for people from all around the world.

During Carnival time (Around February and March) there is a surfing competition organized to enjoy the big waves of that period of the year.
